My grade 11s are halfway through Lord of the Flies so we paused to work on comic book versions of the novel.

I assigned the activity to give students a chance to look back at the story so far and to identify key scenes, characters, moments of foreshadowing, and conflicts. Since it has visual and textual components, I was hoping it would be accessible to learners with those strengths.

Students formed groups and then divided up the chapters.

I went over the requirements and purpose of the project and then let them work away.

I meant to co-create the criteria with them, a la Faye Brownlie, but it slipped my mind and then it was too late. Next time.

Below are photos some of the comics.
